REVIEW - BEANTOWN BOOZEHOUNDS "Pour Another Round" (2009)

Beantown Boozehounds "Pour Another Round" Scally Cap Records SGR-15
Release date: Sept 15, 2009
Running time: 38:4612 tracks

I bought many years ago an album called “Irish Drinking Songs”. It has a sticker on the jewel case that says: “Belly Up & Join the Fun! Great for St. Paddy’s Day or any party!”. Paddy’s Day is arriving and I must say that I won’t play that CD, but another one that could have a similar sticker on it, the Beantown Boozehounds’ debut album “Pour Another Round”.

Beantown Boozehounds is a 4 piece outfit from Boston that has gathered a nice bunch of drinking songs. Eleven self-penned songs and a Wretched Ones cover, "Goin’ Down the Bar". They say that they play drinking class anthems and I have not been able to find a better description: sing-a-long chorus and catchy oi! and street punk songs about drinking. All the members are veterans from the Boston punk scene and they really know how they have to play. Besides, they switch vocal duties and this makes the album more interesting.

From the first track, “On the Road” I was sure that I was going to enjoy the album. A great song that is followed by “Pour Another Round”, a number that starts with a mandolin that rivals with Flatfoot 56.

Apart from those tracks, IMHO the highlights are “D.U.I.”, “Chi-Town Blues” and “Goin’ Down the Bar”. “D.U.I.” is another mandolin driven song in which a couple of members share the vocals. “Chi-Town P.D. Blues” is my fave, I keep on singing “I don’t remember what I did last night, but I woke up black and blue, sitting here in a Chicago jail and I don’t know what to do”. The beginning is a little bit ska-punk, and then the song turns into a superb Clash/Rancid style song. “Goin’ Down the Bar” is also a mighty song that sounds like Angelic Upstarts covering Sham 69.

But the rest of the songs are also worth hearing: “The 19th Hour” (more Clash/Rancid stuff. You think that the song is over and you get a bonus instrumental tune at the end), “Beantown Boozehounds” (this could be a Macc Lads song with aggressive vocals that remind me of Joe Queer singing “I Like Young Girls”), “Old Mr. Boston” ” (a slow paced mandolin driven song that could be a traditional Irish song) “Tonight” ( a classic oi! song) and “We’lll be drinking” (a guest plays sax on this Peter and the Test Tube Babies style song). Even the last track, a folkie number in which the sax player plays flute, seems to be at the right place after all the energy spent on the previous tracks.

I hope that Beantown Boozehounds will be releasing their second album soon. In fact I need it, I’m addicted to their drinking anthems. And if they cover The Queers, I will be happier: “Hey you motherfucker I only drink STOUT”

1) JACK FLASH (South East Country, Queensland, Australia)

Jack Flash is a Toowoomba born and based folk/punk six-piece with a unique brand of catchy, dancing tunes, lyrical genius and fancy flair. Originating in the spring of 2006 they developed a style which brings traditional Australian folk sounds and themes to a punk audience.

Jack Flash is influenced by such acts as Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, Red Gum, The Pogues and The Bushwhackers Band. Drawing on a rich background of Australian, Celtic and American tunes, the Jack Flash boys have forged their own sound and deliver a fresh contribution to the Folk/Punk genre.

In the past four years the band has performed extensively around South East Queensland, with regular forays into New South Wales and Victoria. Jack Flash have had the honour of sharing the stage with a multitude of highly acclaimed international and local acts, including Leftover Crack (USA), Pack (Switz.), KC & The Moonshine Band (Canada), Unpaid Debt, Zombie Ghost Train, The Go Set, Sydney City Trash, Steve Towson, Blowhard and The Quickening.

2) GREEDY STOUT (Darwin, NT, Australia)

Greedy Stout began their campaign to conquer the world in Darwin, somewhere around the year 2006. Now with the good folk of Darwin somewhat exhausted from the Greedy Stout high-energy onslaught in local pubs and Top End festivals, the band is looking for new lands to clobber. Greedy Stout music is a feisty blend of rock and folk with punk attitude. They are somewhere in the vein of Pogues, Dropkick Murphys and perhaps The Clash. Besides the usual bass, drums and guitar there is also violin, mandolin and viola with ripping lyrics about blood, death, beer, rebellion and a smidget of love. That’s entertainment!

Members:

Kane Stewart - Guitar and vocals
Lewis Parsons - Viola and mandolin
Tony Frey - Drums & vocals
Jimi Bonne - Bass and vocals
Gaih Osborne - Violin & vocals

3) DADSCRAMPY (Albury, New South Wales, Australia)

Since 2001 Dadscrampy have been playing their unique brand of high energy folk music around North East Victoria and Southern NSW.

Initially the band began playing traditional Irish and Australian folk music, but over the years they have developed and edge to their sound. Their three albums clearly show the transition from folk to folk/punk, and their latest album, "Law for all, Justice for None", is made up mostly of originals.

Members:

Owen Holding - Vocals,guitar,mandolin
Sam Holding - Drums,bodhran,vocals
Michael Christian - Electric bass,vocals

4) SCARLET'S REVENGE (Sydney, New South Wales, Australia)

Scarlet's Revenge are an acoustic pirate punk outfit. Their music is a combination of folk, punk and rock.

They are one of few bands that use the flute as their lead instrument.

Their music has been described as a blend of Dylan, the Pogues and The Living End.

Members:

Troy Zarb - Vocals/Guitar
Crystal Moloney - Flute/Vocals
Mark Taylor - Bass
Ben Rayor - Drums

5) ROUND MOUNTAIN GIRLS (North Cast, New South Wales, Australia)

The Round Mountain Girls formed in the summer of 2005/2006 at the base of Round Mountain, Cabarita, Northern NSW. With nothing more than Global domination on their minds and an unhealthy interest in bluegrass, Irish, blues and rock music, they began to rearrange classic songs and traditional tunes, bending them tastefully out of shape using nothing more than traditional instuments, Thursday nights and a lust for life. Extraordinary renditions of tunes such as “Pachelbel Cannon”, meandering in and out of “So Lonely” and the banjo driven jungle rhythms of “Walk Like an Egyptian” have enthralled audiences across all age groups and tastes. Slowly however, the RMG sound began to develop and a flood of original material came along which perfectly complemented the old classics.

Their debut album entitled "White Rum" (2008) has been described as “….grittily optimistic” and “simply daunting” (Deborah Minter, Capital News 2008) and is a snap shot of where the band is right now. Songs on White Rum tell modern stories using traditional instruments and showcase their songwriting talents and musicianship. The title track has been aired nationwide.

They display an uncanny ability to grab a new audience by the scruff of the neck and shake them around until they leave the dance floor in search of oxygen. Their appeal is universal. Whether 6 or 60, Country, Disco, Pop, Rock or Folk, they'll have a little bit for everyone.

Members:

Bead Hails - Guitar, vocals, didge
Chris Brooker - Mandolin, vocals, djembe
Rabbit Robinson - Fiddle, vocals
Chris Willoughby - Bass
Rex Carter- Drums
Chris Eaton - Banjo, guitar, vocals.

6) AUSTRALIAN BEEFWEEK SHOW (Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia)

According to the Australian pocket oxford dictionary.... e"go ; an act or time of solely indulging in one's interests/self expression.

"The Australian Beefweek Show'" with it's highly hedonistic values have been expressing such interests for nearly a decade now. Obviously this choice of existance will have it's victims. With only one origial soldier that entered this particular war zone still standing, the decision was to keep re-cruiting new bunches of self-destructive semi-musical warlords to take up the charge. We could sit here for days just trying to think of all the past members, let alone take you into any detail of the life that they experienced as a member of the revolving door that is "the australian beefweek show". Rather than bore you shittless with some trad band bio, we are simply going to run you through a brief Q and A with the five current members.

QUESTION (1) WHAT IS THE FIRST THOUGHT THAT COME'S TO MIND WHEN YOU HEAR THE WORD "BEEFWEEK"?
PETE (drums) : ahh? ok! hah hah!..... yeah man!
MULLARD (guitar/vox) : ahhh? fuck! ummm?.... steak in a schooner glass!
FRAMMO (bass/vox) : keeping the cunt in country rock!
ERROL (guitar/vox) : ahh yeah!........ that pack of deadshits!
WASHY (vox/rum) : looks like wer'e drinking tonight!

QUESTION (2) BEST BEEFWEEK GIG OF ALL TIME?
MULLARD : that would be my first one, five years ago.We played three sets and I only knew one of them!.And the very hazey memory of bufo dipping stale bread into molten mull butter. Not to mention the pantless hilarity that soon followed. PETE : it was somewhere between peat's ridge and wollombi, playing in the mud at some fucken doof-doof with a bunch of filthy hippies!
FRAMMO : the gumball 2005. I think it was Errol's first gig?. Washy was firing on all cylinders that night. Best performance to date!
ERROL : it would have to be the bikie pub at scone, when the licencee informs the band that it's free beers all night and is also willing to facilitate in the flow of free rum and shots aswell! You know your gonna be there for a while!
WASHY : the first time we ever got naked on stage at our album launch, during a cover of "chase the dragon". This came after actually learning a good part of the set for that night in the van that afternoon, on the way home from Armidale.

QUESTION (3) WORST BEEFWEEK GIG EVER?
WASHY : the time we drove to Lismore for one gig. It fucken took twelve hours to get there due to bufo's combi shitting itself. And then about twenty minutes into the set I past out due to a hideous dose of the flu.
ERROL : my first gig at the 2005 gumball. Ispent most of the set playing agony aunt to the stage manager. He was continuely tapping me on the shoulder, venting his fury about the amount of rum and beer that was being spilt all over his sound system by our "not so in control" frontman.
MULLARD : it would have to be the gumball 2005, hey wasn't that Errol's first gig?. Man!!! Really rad!!! chris was like?...fuck!!..well ya know?? fuck that's evil!!! FRAMMO : playing an autonomy day at Newy uni at 6am half cut skulling rum. Washy targeted the only person other than the sound guy who was paying us any attention and proceeded to hurl comments like "your so fucken ugly mate! I reckon you'de have trouble getting a fuck in a brothel" back and forth for most of the set. The innocent victim of his drunken abuse turned out to be a harmless lesbian.
PETE : man I'm in the middle of a tafe class at the moment. Can I call you back?

Members:

Chris Wash - Vocals
Geoff Mullard - Guitar/vocals
Anthony Frampton - Bass/vocals
Errol Moyle - Guitar/vocals
Pete Moffat - Drums

TAKE' EM DOWN - THE DROPKICK MURPHYS STAND WITH WISCONSIN

Hey Everyone,

The Dropkick Murphys would like to take a moment to acknowledge the struggles of the working people of Wisconsin and to pledge our support and solidarity by releasing the song "Take Em Down" from our upcoming album. We think it's appropriate at the moment and hope you like it. You can hear the song here: dropkickmurphys.com/news.

We have also created a limited edition “Take ‘Em Down” t-shirt which is available for sale at dropkickmurphys.com/merch. Proceeds from the "Take 'Em Down" t-shirt sales will benefit Workers' Rights Emergency Response Fund.

We'll see you in Wisconsin in a few days.

The Dropkick Murphys Stand With Wisconsin!

ENTER THE HAGGIS - FEBRUARY 2011 NEWSLETTER

Hello land-lubbers! This installment we'll tell you about the bizzarre and amazing pre-sale packages we've made available, the cruise we just finished up and our upcoming tour dates. Read on!

CAYAMO CRUISE

We just finished up a week on the Cayamo cruise, and it was an incredible experience. Ellis Paul sat in and performed "Hurricane Angel"; Colin Hay (from Men At Work) jumped on stage and sang "Wild Mountain Thyme" and Brian got to join Shawn Mullins on the headline stage for his song "Can't Remember Summer". As if that wasn't enough, we met and collaborated with tons of other great acts over the course of the week as well. Trevor and Craig wrote a song with Ellis Paul; Brian jumped on stage with Larkin Poe (fantastic young roots-rock band) a few times; Brian and Bruce even got to jam on Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" as part of a late-night supergroup jam session featuring Sarah and Christian Dugas, Chuck Cannon, Shawn Mullins and his band, Roddie Romero and a whole bunch of others. Way to go Cayamo! Hope we can do it again.

Now we're back on solid ground, and we're gearing up for a pretty intense month of shows starting with a few Florida dates (Orlando, Pensacola and Tallahassee) before we start heading back north. This weekend we'll be in the Atlanta area for two shows, so don't miss out! (Scroll down for tour dates).

PRE-SALES NOW AVAILABLE

We recently launched a fundraising campaign in advance of our return to the studio. There are a whole bunch of pre-sale packages, pieces of gear for sale and ETH-themed adventures for you to choose from, so go take a look:

We've already sold a bunch of music lessons, loads of Heart Packages and two lucky (and incredibly generous) Haggis Heads will be getting a recording of ETH playing a song of their choice! It even looks like Brian will be committing to the first of his two joint tattoos by the end of the day. Incredible.

Lots of great packages are still available though - if you've ever wanted to go into space with ETH, now's the time! It'll only cost half a million dollars - totally worth it. Make sure you check out the gear (and kilts!) for sale as well.

SPEAKING OF GEAR..

Annoying note: we've been forced to put our video streaming on an indefinite hiatus. The day before the cruise, someone kindly decided to aid our fuel efficiency by lightening the trailer somewhat, and they helped themselves to a couple of Les Pauls, a few toolboxes and a synth. Sadly, one of the toolboxes contained two camcorders and all our cables and tripods, so we'll have to wait a while before we can start shooting again. Sorry!

GERMANY SEATS STILL AVAILABLE

If you've ever wanted to sip from a 1L glass of beer in a Bavarian beer garden, why not do it this summer with ETH? We're returning to the fabulous Folk Im Schlosshof festival, and we want you to come along! Click the following link for more details:

REVIEW: THE BOLLOX "The Bollox" (2009)

Well, it has been over a week now, and frankly, there is no sign of me changing discs real soon. Yeah, The Bollox’ self-titled debut is that good.

It is a bit surprising, too, because I really dig the trad instruments: fiddle, accordion, banjo, et cetera, and with the exception of a brief smattering hither and yon, this album is fairly devoid of these.

I didn’t notice right away, actually. I had checked the band’s website, (for a more in-depth and accurate review! You’re welcome!), when I saw it: Five members - one drummer, one bass, one guitar, and two guitar and vocals. That was it. Not so much as a regular mandolinist or even a whistle, (those fleeting roles have been filled by guest musicians.)

But like I said, I hadn’t even noticed.

Y’see, the songs on this CD are so good that the absence of the folk instruments wasn’t even noticed! Oh, it is still quite readily entrenched in the “Celtic Folk-Punk” genre, no denying that, but the Bollox’ place under that umbrella isn’t dependent on the instrumentation. The songs themselves cement this. And these are some damned well written songs. With catchy choruses and great melodies.

To give an idea of the sound of the Tempe, Arizona-based quintet, I would compare them most closely to The Killigans, or perhaps The Swaggering Growlers, with a moment or two that reminded me of earlier Dreadnoughts.

I am hard pressed to find a favorite track on this release, though. Seriously, there are that many great songs! And I see that The Bollox have all of those songs up and available for download at iTunes, Amazon, and CD Baby. AND, since each of those sites provides samples of every track, you don’t have to take my word for it! Check them out for yourself!

REVIEW - SKONTRA "Mazcando Miseries" (2010)

Skontra “Mazcando Miseries” Skontra + Algamar Producciones, CDALG/0012 (2010)
Release Date: December 2010
Running Time: 12 tracks (10 tracks + Intro and Outro)

Pioneers of the Spanish Celtic punk scene, Skontra released at the beginning of December 2010 their third album. As they were touring The Netherlands and Germany, the fans from those countries were able to get their hands on the new CD before the Spanish fans.

Mazcando Miseries” is the evidence that their blend of punk and Asturian Celtic music keeps on being fresh and interesting. The band plays different genres (Streetpunk, oi!, ska, Spanish punk and Spanish rock) and the engagement with their mother tongue (Asturian) and local folk music is always there.

My faves are the songs in which the bagpipes take the lead and where the music shows the party side of the band: the intro/outro, “Santana”, “La to sienda” and “Billete ensin vuelta”. Moreover, a song from their first demo recording has been updated, “Caleyando”.

The lyrics, as usual, complain about the situations that we have to bear in every day’s life: corporations, governments, unemployment, etc. One of the most interesting lyrics is that of “Rock’n’Robo”, a song about the SGAE (the firm that deals with the copyrights of the musicians and writers in Spain ). Skontra share their music free on the Internet and their position against the policy that the SGAE, backed by the Government, is following is very clear: those guys are robbing. Another song, “Bales son Palabres” includes at the end some lines of the lyrics of “Cerebros Destruidos”, a song written by the Basque band Eskorbuto (probably the best Spanish punk song that a band has ever written).

As the album can be downloaded for free from their website, go ahead and download it. If you enjoy it, then you can buy it directly from the band. You won’t be disappointed.

Tracklist:

01 – Intro 50
02 – Caleyando 1:54
03 – La misma piedad 4:06
04 – Santana 3:48
05 – Gran hermano 3:04
06 – En mi cárcel 3:28
07 – La to sienda 3:20
08 – Callar lamentos 2:39
09 – Bales son pallabres 2:48

FREE DOWNLOADS - KETAMINA "Fiquei bebendo sozinho ..." (2011)

Ketamina has released their new album, "Fiquei bebendo sozinho...". Eleven tracks + a bonus track ("Joby esta de volta"). Paulo and Pedro (Gramofocas) guest in track no. 4, "Bem vindo a festa". All the lyrics are written by Fábio and all the music by Ketamina except track no. 10 "Que tal uma Guinness?" (The Wakes "Oh My Guinness"), arr. Fábio.

The lyrics are available at:

http://letras.terra.com.br/ketamina/

Excellent Celtic punk influenced by Dropkick Murphys, Screeching Weasel and British Oi! bands from the 80's. The artwork is also quite good, it's similar to that of Brutus Daughter's "When the Pubs Are Dying ..."

SAD NEWS

Patrick Halloran of the band Ceann died in a car accident last February 1, 2011. He will be sorely missed.

I had got their last newsletter at the end of January:

"Hello rarely used Street Teamers. We posted the newly recorded version of Pittsburgh Makes Me Drunk to our bandcamp site to make it easier for people to download and share on the internet. The last time the Steelers went to the Super Bowl it was a huge boost to our iTunes sales and we made a lot of fans without even promoting ourselves. This time we'd like to be a little more proactive. If you could share this link on any Social Networking sites you use I'm sure it would really help spread the music.

http://ceann.bandcamp.com "

This is the info about the band that can be found at the wikipedia:

"Ceann is an American Rock Irish Drinking Music band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Most commonly known for their song Pittsburgh makes me drunk and then it rains.. Their influences include Pat McCurdy, Kingston Trio, Great Big Sea, Cake, The Pogues, Johnny Cash, Flogging Molly, Ween, They Might Be Giants, The Town Pants, Barenaked Ladies, Willie Nelson.

History

Patrick Halloran and Marc Wisnosky started the band in college. They wanted to play some Irish songs at a party on St. Patrick’s Day, so they learned a few of the classic Irish pub tunes and wrote a couple of original Pittsburgh-themed Irish songs. They started off by playing at an open mic event. The bar they played at was very impressed—with the crowd, certainly not with their playing, but invited them back for a show. They struggled in the beginning, but crowds found them great to be around. They began to play about fifteen to twenty Irish songs and then would eventually switch to songs by 'N Sync, Hanson, Snoop Dog, NWA.

Ceann formed as an Irish Rock Band in Pittsburgh in 2005 with the release of their first album of all-original material "Almost Irish." Before that, Ceann was an acoustic trio that played Irish pub music across the northeast. Ceann continue to mix fun Irish music with their popular originals. While some of Ceann's songs revolve around the culture of being Irish Americans many of Ceann's most popular songs have distinctively more contemporary themes. Their songs appeal far beyond the normal reach of Irish music and have given them access to unprecedented markets for an Irish band. As one of the only Irish bands to find success on commercial radio, Ceann's fan base has grown as quickly outside of Irish music circles as quickly as it's grown within them. Their cross market appeal has allowed them to be featured at Irish festivals and at non-Irish music festivals to equal success. Ceann have also become one of the most sought after college music acts in the country.

In two years Ceann have become one of the most successful independent bands in the country. Over the last two years Ceann have played more shows than any other national touring Irish band in the country. They've sold more CDs and have appeared on, or have had their music played on, more radio stations than 80% of all bands releasing CDs on music labels over the same two-year period. They've been singled out by music industry executives as one of the most successful business models for independent music artists. On February 1, 2011 lead singer Patrick Halloran was killed in a car accident in Vermont.

Name

Ceann is pronounced "Key-Anne". It means head. The original name was Ceann na Caca, which is Gaelic for “Head of Poop.” It wasn’t supposed to be funny or clever. Ceann was only going to play one show to parody The Pogues’ original name, Pogue Mahone, which means "kiss my ass". They realize that some people became hesitant to book them because of the name, so they shortened it to Ceann.

Sound

Five to six guys of ambiguous descent playing something that may or may not sound like Irish music. Some people say we sound like or may be influenced by the following bands: Cake_(band), Stephen Lynch, Johnny Cash, Flogging Molly, Ween, Great Big Sea, They Might Be Giants, Barenaked Ladies, Black 47, The Pogues."

3 DAFT MONKEYS - NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 2011

Hello Hirsute Humans and Purple Primates everywhere.

Spring is in the air, the crocuses are out and us monkeys are coming down from the trees with some VERY exciting news... wait for it...................

3 DAFT MONKEYS WILL BE PERFORMING 3 LIVE TRACKS ON THE BOB HARRIS SHOW ON BBC RADIO 2 ON SATURDAY 2nd APRIL.

It will be on his Bob Harris Sunday show which is on Saturday night from midnight til 3am (we'll be on from 1 til 2am) and we are very excited to be doing it. Crack open that mug of cocoa, turn up the gramophone, let's party! Bob Harris saw us performing at Cropredy in 2010 and came straight up to chat to Athene afterwards, and was very enthusiastic about live performance. Hooray for Bob!!!!!

So, to celebrate, we're coming to play some live shows for you in the next couple of months. The dates are below, with venue contact details.... make sure you get your tickets as soon as poss as our last few gigs have been complete sell-outs and we couldn't bear to turn anyone away. So far we'll be in Bideford, Bridport, St Agnes, Southampton, Colchester and Bridgwater, and there'll be more added soon.

The voting is still on for the Spiral Earth Music Awards, and we are still in the running in the "Best Live Act" category, up against the big boys of the acoustic music world. It would be fab if you could follow this link and put your tick in our box. http://www.spiralearth.co.uk/spiralawards2011/

The festival season is shaping up nicely, we'll update you on which fields we'll be in soon. Festivals are still sorting out their line-ups, so if there's one you REALLY want to see us at, don't tell us, TELL THEM. Send an email to the festival, or start a page on their chatroom... they really do take notice.

Reviews are still rolling in for the new CD, we've had some really great ones, and will put more links up on our website to them in the next few weeks. We also have a feature in December's issue of Acoustic magazine, and will be appearing in some other glossies in the next few months.

One more snippet, we discovered that Athene's musical track The Old Man of Storr was used twice in a wonderful BBC Documentary called "The Art Of Cornwall". It's well worth a look if it's still on iPlayer.

And don't forget, on the home page of our website www.3daftmonkeys.co.uk you can download a free bonus track that's not on the CD called "Masquerade Parade"

So, see you at a gig VERY VERY soon, let's stir up a revolution, and DANCE.

BLEEDING HEARTS NEWSLETTER - JANUARY 2011

All Change At Bleeders HQ

New Year brings an altogether new approach. Good news, new faces and also a goodbye.

Sadly, due to his various intense life commitments we have had to say 'so long' to Mark madfiddler Knight. We have parted on good terms and we want to thank Mark for helping us out of a big hole a couple of years ago when we had gigs to play but had no fiddler. If you recall, we had to do some sans fiddler.

However, in with the new... Lizzie Prendergast has joined us full-time. We have been shaking down new songs in January now and working out stuff for the long-awaited, and vastly overdue new album 'Folk 'n' Glory'. We ain't done there either... Ewan Porter (hyphen) Stephens will be joining us on the album with his mandolin and other bits and noises and fitting in as many gigs as his itinerary will allow. I guess that makes us, to all intents and purposes, a five-piece by default.

So me, Gaz and Gel want to say, hello, welcome aboard and we will keep rocking in the free world... in a folky way of course. In time, the website will reflect these changes - especially as we lack new video and those all important kitsch photos and biog to boot, so stay tuned to Bleeders TV.

Folk 'n' Glory - the new album

Songs are rehearsed (mostly, wouldn't be totally right not to fly by the seat of our pants of course) and recording dates agreed to kick off the recording. This album will herald a totally different approach to everything else we have ever done! For a start, this will be an album that is self-recorded in our own new mobile studio (it's a posh laptop with groovy plug-ins, sans amps and audio mixer) and self engineered by yours truly. It will have more instruments and more voices, more acoustic instruments and more electronics. Tests have been conducted to see if any of us actually has the where-for-all to go this route and it sounds pretty good, but be prepared for some surprises.

This album will be called 'Folk 'n' Glory' for a reason! It will reflect a return to some earthier songs, with more folky moments (the 'folk') but at the same time maintain that raw edge (the 'glory'). Here's hoping it marks a milestone in the bands development.

Our focus this year will be the new album - recording it, mixing and producing it and getting it pressed. Then marketing it and finally getting off our assess and gigging it. We therefore do not anticipate too many gigs in the early part of the year so we hope to pick up the baton later in the year on that score.

A Plug

Right now I would just like to give a plug to a mate of mine, Dave Maclean. He's written a book about some rather natty cats and their little gang who enjoy life to the full and learn some lessons along the way while trying to avoid a few things too. It even has tons of musical references in there and yes you guessed it... The Bleeders are included. It's called 'Dogs Are Daft' (I don't think they are personally but it's a great title) and you can get it from Amazon. Buy it, it's a great read for adults and kids alike - 'cus Dave, like The Bleeders, is poor and needs the money too! I am not on commission or any fee before you get any daft ideas.

We is on i-Tunes

Those of you who are missing our earlier albums will be pleased to hear they are now on Spotify, as well as being available to download from iTunes, Amazon MP3, Play, 7digital, and many other fine vendors of digital music.

The forum

Or blogspot as it is now called is still going (not so strong recently of course) with mini inside views of life on the road, we hope you have read them and enjoyed them. I'll keep them going and let you know how the album progresses too.

Finally

We hope to see some of you, all of you, new friends, old friends, lost friends at a gig soon, when they eventually happen, so don't be strangers!

Foxie
xx
